  8. INTRODUCTION

  10. This archive contains a demonstration version of Personal Paint 7. The
  11. software has no functional limitations, except for a pattern of "DEMO"
  12. symbols which appears over the image when saving and printing. For obvious
  13. space reasons, this version is not representative of the I/O modules (most
  14. formats are missing here, in part due to licensing restrictions), Rexx
  15. scripts, artwork and documentation included with the commercial package.

  18. USER INTERFACE LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH
  19.  
  20. By default, Personal Paint 7 tries to run in the system default language.
  21. This demonstration archive contains only the English user interface file
  22. ("PPaint_Prefs/UIText.eng"). Additional languages are stored in separate
  23. "PPUIText_...88" archives, also in the "biz/cloan" directory on Aminet
  24. (please note the version number: Personal Paint 7.0 requires version 88 of
  25. the user interface files). To install a new program language, just drop
  26. its file in the "PPaint_Prefs" directory.

  29. HARD DISK INSTALLATION
  30.  
  31. To install Personal Paint 7 to hard disk, simply move the entire drawer
  32. contained in the archive to the desired location. Assigning "PPAINT:" to
  33. the installation drawer is useful for the system to find the Default
  34. Tools, if used by artwork files, but is not strictly required by Personal
  35. Paint. To fit on a single floppy disk, the software was compressed with
  36. Imploder. After hard disk installation, it is possible to decompress the
  37. software so that it loads faster (and using less memory). If, for example,
  38. the software is installed in "Work:PPaint", decompression can be performed
  39. from the Shell as follows:

  45. FLOPPY DISK INSTALLATION
  46.  
  47. To install Personal Paint 7 to an Amiga floppy disk, format a disk
  48. (without creating a "Trashcan" in it), name it "PPaint", and copy the
  49. contents of the drawer (not the drawer itself) contained in this archive
  50. to the disk. For example, to install Personal Paint from "RAM:PPaint" to
  51. drive 0 ("DF0:"), type the following from the Shell:

  53.    Delete DF0:#? ALL
  54.    Copy RAM:PPaint/#? DF0: ALL CLONE

  57. OVERVIEW OF NEW FEATURES

  59. Personal Paint 7 has more than 100 new features, including:

  61. - New and improved file formats, including Photo CD (licensed by Kodak),
  62.   GIF (licensed by Unisys), BMP (Windows and OS/2), JPEG (not a DataType
  63.   any more), 24-bit DataTypes and PBM
  64.  
  65. - Professional Internet features like GIF animations, a map editor, and
  66.   everything needed to achieve maximum image quality in a compact
  67.   size
  68.  
  69. - Enhanced user interface (pop-up gadgets, different sizes of user
  70.   interface fonts, NewIcons thumbnails, etc.)

  72. - 182 Rexx commands, with scripts directly accessible from the tool bar
  73.  
  74. - New "plug-in" library system makes it possible to add input/output
  75.   formats (for files, scanners, screens, etc.) and to replace critical
  76.   Amiga blitter and CPU code with a combination of "virtual blitter" and
  77.   other logic fully exploiting the different configurations (68040,
  78.   Phase 5 PowerPC, etc.)

  80. - Automatically create directory thumbnails for entire directories

  82. - Advanced vector text functions (rotate, antialias, paths, animate,
  83.   etc.)

  85. - CD-ROM edition includes: developer documentation, reorganized manuals
